AUSTRALIAN ENVOY DOWNPLAYS RACIAL EMAIL SCANDAL

OFFENSIVE E-MAIL FROM RACIST POLICE MAY DAMAGE
BUSINESS RELATIONS BETWEEN INDIA AND AUSTRALIA
www.abc.net.au - There are fears a racist email reportedly circulated by Victorian police officers could damage business relations between India and Australia. Four Australian police officers were sacked and disciplinary action initiated against 15 others over the circulation of emails mocking a video showing an Indian man getting electrocuted while riding on the roof of a train in India. The video was circulated by Victorian police officers joking, “it could be a way to fix the Indian student problem” in Melbourne. This comment was a reference to the well-publicised spate of violent attacks against Indians, particularly international students, in Victoria last year. The attacks sparked claims that the violence was racially motivated and concerns that Australia’s multi-billion international education industry could be damaged. Over the past year and a half, Indian students have been the target of a number of attacks in Australia. The Australian High Commissioner to India, Peter Varghese, has condemned the email, and Victoria’s Police Chief Commissioner says the officers involved will be dealt with harshly.

Deepak Raj Gupta from the Australia India Business Council says the incident has not gone unnoticed in India. “Only yesterday I had a few calls from the son of the Indian minister asking me what’s going on there,” he said. “There are a lot of people who are trying to do build a relationship with Australia and they’re wondering is this the right place to do business,” he said. Mr. Raj Gupta says the relationship between the two countries is already fragile. Varghese said the email “offensive and unacceptable”, and that “It was contrary to the principles of respect and tolerance which underpin Australian society.”

Over the past year and a half, Indian students have been the target of a number of attacks in Austalia, and now in another manifestation of racism, Australian cops have been found circulating a video of an Indian man getting electrocuted while sitting on top of the train and saying that this could be a way to fix the problem of Indian students in Melbourne. This racism is not new. In the past, many Occidental thinkers were biased against India culture and civilization.

WHAT DO THE VEDIC TEACHINGS TELL US?
Early indologists wished to control & convert the followers of Vedic Culture, therefore they widely propagated that the Vedas were simply mythology. Max Muller, perhaps the most well known early sanskritist and indologist, although later in life he glorified the Vedas, initially wrote that the “Vedas were worse than savage” and “India must be conquered again by education... it’s religion is doomed”. Thomas Macaulay, who introduced English education into India wanted to make the residents into a race that was: “Indian in blood and color, but English in taste, in opinion, in morals, and in intellect. These early Indologists: - Devised the Aryan Invasion theory, denying India’s Vedic past. - They taught that the English educational system is superior. - They intentionally misinterpreted sanskrit texts to make the Vedas look primitive. - And they systematically tried to make Indians ashamed of their own culture. - Thus the actions of these indologists seem to indicate that they were motivated by a racial bias.
